šŸ„ā€ā™‚ļø More Maldives, surfed out, back to Bali

What's been going on...

  • Scored an amazing swell in Maldives during Eid

  • Body’s broken - back to Bali

  • Hacking away on my first ā€˜vibe-coded’ app

Kentucky Fried Feet šŸ¦¶šŸ—

Sometimes when you book a ā€œshoulderā€ season trip there’s a chance you get skunked…and the other chance is you score amazing waves with little to no crowd.

The first week in June was the latter in the Maldives. Picture perfect waves with light crowds (on the big days). By the end of the swell my shoulders and back were absolute toast, nipples felt like they were about to fall off, armpits burned from the rashes of paddling against the current for weeks, and feet looked like Kentucky fried chicken from getting cut up on the reef. Even brought back a souvenir of a sea urchin living rent free in my foot šŸ˜‚

It’s crazy how much a week can change things because the next week scores of crowds arrived for the season and the waves died down - the mood of the new junkies was quite different than those of us that’d been there just a few days prior. Never book a surf trip under 2 weeks unless it’s a strike mission.

Maldivian Eid Painting

Outside of the great waves, it was fun celebrating Eid yet again. Such a lively and festive time in a place that is normally suuuuuuupppper chiiiiiill. If you’ve experienced something like ā€œtico timeā€ in Costa Rica…just divide that by 2 and you’ve got the pace of life in the Maldives. Some of the other highlights were drunk jet skiing, and storm gazing - highly suggest both…just not at the same time duh.

I didn’t finish the Bolt hackathon in time, but it was a great opportunity to really try out this ā€œvibe-codingā€ thing.

It’s WILD how far you can get without touching a line of code using vibe-coding tools. It’s not perfect - definitely lacking taste in the design sense, and lots of bugs that sometimes it just can’t get past - but for people that have ideas and want to feel something out or build something internally - it’s pretty bonkers especially to think of where we were just a year ago.
