Parents and Mosquitos 🦟

What's been going on...
Showed my parents around Singapore & Bali
Got Dengue fever 🤒

Mama n’ Mozzies
March was a whirlwind.
I started by flying to Singapore to meet up with my parents and show them the real 1st world 😉. It was amazing - one long weekend but we did so much and got to see the best of Singapore.
Afterwards, we flew to Bali for a 3 week adventure…
Half was amazing, and half was a nightmare.
I had every day planned to a T - from breakfast, to the day’s adventure, and where we’d stay. After a quick show around my hood - we went on the tourist track to the must visits - Uluwatu and the bukit, Ubud and the lakes, Nusa Lembongan…

It was after we got to Nusa Lembongan I got uncontrollable shakes during the night and woke up with a 103F fever. I thought maybe food poisoning or just your odd tropical fever that goes away after a day or two..but the fever got worse and my body started to shut down.
I’m usually someone that can stick things out, but I knew I needed a doc and fast. We were stuck on a tiny island with no real medical services…so we cut the trip short a day and got the boat back to the mainland.
When we got to Bali - I went to the hospital - just about fainted and then threw up in the waiting room and then got the tests. What I had expected - dengue fever. My bloodwork was pretty much depleted - white blood cells gone, platelets gone, hemoglobin at scary levels. So I got hooked up to IV and vitamins for 3-4 days and waited it out.
The first few days were still scary because dengue peaks at day 7 - so even though I first got to the hospital on day 4 and was in the ‘safety’ of being monitored at a hospital - there’s still nothing really they can do and they warned me the bloodwork will get even worse the next few days…and it did 😳
I got shit scared by day 7 - probably didn’t help my mom just kept reading me everything that can go wrong like my organs shutting down, bleeding from gums, ears, nose, and hemorrhaging throughout my body…
But finally the platelets ticked up on day 7 and I felt relieved it was the beginning of the end. The ‘end’ still sucks btw - rashes throughout your body and feeling itchy all over. Fever still in and out.
The worst of it was just not getting back the time. For the last week of my parents visit they basically just took care of me. I was hoping to make the entire trip for them a no worries planned vacation and unfortunately they pretty much just spent the last week hanging by the pool and getting me food/water. Still super bummed about that 🫤
