  • Balinese New Year 🛕

Silent Day

After a loooong month hopping around Japan, I landed a few days before Bali’s most special day - Nyepi aka Balinese New Year aka Silent Day.

The next couple weeks I enjoyed jumping back in the water and getting back into a routine. Only a month until I’m back stateside for a couple weeks 😱🇺🇸

Balinese New Year

The day before Nyepi is a bit of debaunchery - peeps get hammered all day and then each neighborhood parades around their ogoh-ogoh demons.

The next day the entire island shuts down, no lights, no sounds, nobody allowed out on the roads, even the airport shuts down. It’s a beautiful cleanse for the mind, body, and soul - well it should be…but they keep the internet on sooo…

Home Sweet Home

Other than that, I’ve just been acclimating back from frozen, pristine Japan to hot and polluted Bali 😆 It’s pretty bonkers how you get used to the smell of burning plastic and trash absolutely everywhere in Bali.

The humidity has chilled a bit and it’s heading into the dry season and wave season. We’re at peak Keramas season and both the waves and crowds have been intense. Plus there’s a surf comp for the next week that took over the main break.

Other than that been eating good, chilling with the dog, catching up with friends and planning next moves.
